Icon announces novel agreement with Vinmec Central Park International Hospital

Icon Group (Icon), today announced a novel agreement with Vinmec Central Park International Hospital (Vinmec), in response to the growing cancer burden in the region.

The healthcare system in Vietnam currently only addresses 30 to 40 percent of the demand in cancer services, due to limited access to radiation therapy treatment facilities and advanced techniques.  Yet the cancer incidence continues to increase, with recent forecasts revealing an increase of 60% by 2030, calling for substantial investment in cancer care delivery.

Vinmec, a not-for-profit institute backed by Vietnam’s leading private economic consortium, Vingroup Corporation, opened its doors in 2012 and is renowned for its provision of high-quality healthcare services.  Testament to Vinmec’s ethos of providing the best possible care and first-class expertise to all patients, the institute has become one of the first hospitals in Vietnam to offer multimodal cancer treatment (the combination of multiple treatments at the same time) to improve standard of care.

Icon Group CEO, Mark Middleton said, “At Icon, we believe that all cancer patients deserve world-class care, wherever they live. It is with great intention that we have partnered with Vinmec, who share our values of patient-centred care and have an equal commitment to meet the global cancer burden. This partnership is another step forward in our commitment to an elevated standard of cancer care in the region.”

Icon Group’s new service agreement with Vinmec has resulted in the introduction of specialised radiation technology and planning audit tools that respond to the individual treatment needs of patients. Furthermore, the centre’s 30 beds will have the capacity to treat 2,500 patients each year and provide medical oncology, surgical and radiation oncology services for the region.

Vinmec Central Park International Hospital CEO Lê Quốc Sử said, “Our mission is to ensure cancer patients in our country can access care that is world-class. This partnership marks a shift in the standard of cancer care as Vinmec becomes one of the first hospitals in Vietnam applying innovative cancer treatment like multimodal treatments, with the support from our world-leading modern equipment and Icon Group’s management services. We can now work towards an Oncology Center of Excellence, to deliver people in Ho Chi Minh City and surrounding areas, exceptional and effective cancer care services and treatment.”

Mark Middleton said, “Icon has a proven track record of delivering quality integrated cancer care services across the region. The new partnership with Vinmec complements our existing offering in Hong Kong, Singapore and mainland China, building momentum in our mission of providing the best care possible, to as many people as possible.”

Icon recently entered the Hong Kong market with the acquisition of oncology-focused group, SunTech Medical Group (SunTech). In Singapore, the Group currently has seven state-of-the-art Icon cancer centres and recently signed a partnership with The Mount Alvernia Hospital that will see Icon invest in a new comprehensive and integrated cancer centre on site. In mainland China, Icon has also signed partnerships with the renowned Sanbo Hospital Group and United Family Healthcare Group that will see Icon introduce radiation oncology services in the 2019-2020 financial year.
