Cancer Services – Australia and New Zealand

Icon is Australia’s largest dedicated provider of cancer care.

Icon is Australia’s largest dedicated provider of cancer care. We bring together all aspects of a cancer patients care from diagnosis, through to treatment and beyond. Our cancer services include:

Oncology day hospitals

Icon’s day oncology division is Australia’s largest private provider of day oncology and haematology and has six centres nationally. Before becoming part of the Group, the doctors at Icon Cancer Care pioneered private medical oncology and haematology in Australia. Opening their doors with just three doctors and a small number of nurses in 1988, Icon has grown to deliver more than 78,000 treatments for patients with cancer and haematological disorders every year.

This care is delivered by over 360 staff and 100 visiting medical practitioners across seven day hospital locations nationally. These centres are complemented by satellite clinics across regional Queensland and a telehealth program into rural and remote communities. The breadth of this makes Icon the largest private day oncology provider in Australia.

Radiation oncology

Icon’s radiation oncology division was formed via the acquisition of four key radiation oncology businesses and is now the largest provider of radiation oncology in Queensland, and the fastest growing service in Australia. With 50% growth in the division’s footprint over the last twelve months and plans to increase by another 120% over the next two years, Icon is committed to increased access to radiation therapy for Australians with cancer.

We employ the most sophisticated technology and techniques to treat a wide range of cancers including skin, breast, prostate, colorectal, lung, head and neck, and central nervous system. Highly technical, radiation oncology has the ability to deliver pinpoint accuracy when treating a tumour while sparing the organs and healthy tissue around the treatment area. Driving this care are over 280 staff across 14 locations nationally. With 50% of sites in regional Australia and a leading role in public-private partnerships [PPP], Icon is dedicated to ensuring more people have access to the best care possible, as close to home as possible.

Comprehensive cancer centres

These centres bring together day oncology, radiation oncology and pharmacy under the one roof to deliver a true end-to-end service for patients. This comprehensive service is delivered by an experienced multidisciplinary team who understand the individual needs of patients and operate as one to ensure continuity of care. This is especially important for a large category of patients who undergo concurrent radiation therapy and chemotherapy regimens.

Icon Group’s first state-of-the-art integrated centre opened in 2016 in the growing suburb of North Lakes, Brisbane. Icon now has six comprehensive cancer centres with another opening by the end of 2018.

Cancer Services - New Zealand

Icon Group delivers cancer care into New Zealand via Bowen Icon Cancer Centre – a joint venture with Acurity Health Group.

The centre provides comprehensive cancer care including chemotherapy and treatment for blood disorders via a six-bed day hospital overlooking Trelissick Park. In early 2019, Bowen also introduced radiation oncology services, becoming the first of Icon Group’s cancer care facilities outside of Australia to deliver radiation therapy treatments.

Located in Wellington, New Zealand’s capital city, Bowen Icon Cancer Centre is staffed by dedicated and experienced doctors and a local care team, ensuring patients receive personalised and exceptional care every step of the way. It is the only fully integrated private cancer facility for oncology outpatients throughout the Wellington region and beyond.
