Dr Marcel Knesl brings more than 30 years’ clinical experience to his role as Icon Group Director of Radiation Oncology (AU/NZ), underpinned by a dedication to improving the wellbeing of cancer patients both in his local practice and across the globe.

Dr Marcel Knesl is Icon’s Director of Radiation Oncology, and is a consultant radiation oncologist at Icon Cancer Centre Maroochydore and the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

After completing an undergraduate medical degree (MBChB) at Witwatersrand University in Johannesburg, South Africa, Dr Knesl moved to Auckland, New Zealand where he trained in radiation oncology at Auckland Hospital. During this time Dr Knesl became a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists.

Dr Knesl began practicing radiation oncology on the Sunshine Coast in 2006. Marcel went on to complete the Graduate Diploma of Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Recent appointments include Icon’s Director of Radiation Oncology and the academic appointment of Senior Lecturer Griffith University lecturing medical students at the newly opened Griffith Medical School, Sunshine Coast.
