Solutions Architect

About the role
We have a permanent full-time opportunity for a Solution Architect to join our Information Technology team at our head office in South Brisbane. Reporting to the Head of IT Operations (APAC), you will design end-to-end solutions that are secure, scalable and aligned with Icon’s enterprise architecture standards, approved patterns and technology principles.

You will partner with business functions, project teams and vendors to translate requirements into clear solution designs, specifications, integration designs and key decision records. You will also provide technical leadership through delivery and transition to operational support, helping ensure approved designs are implemented as intended and deliver tangible business value.

Key responsibilities
  • Design end-to-end technical solutions aligned with business requirements, enterprise architecture standards and approved architectural patterns.
  • Define application, integration, data and security architecture components across on-premises, IaaS, PaaS and SaaS environments.
  • Ensure interoperability between clinical, operational and corporate platforms, including API-based integrations and event-driven architectures.
  • Incorporate data architecture, quality, governance, retention and reporting requirements into solution designs in partnership with Data and Analytics.
  • Assess and design AI, automation and digital enablement solutions in line with security, privacy, regulatory and governance requirements
  • Produce and maintain solution design documents, specifications, integration designs and key decision records.
  • Evaluate technology options, platforms and vendor proposals across impact, effort, cost, risk, benefit and total cost of ownership.
  • Embed security, privacy, resilience, scalability, sustainability and supportability by design.
  • Provide technical leadership throughout solution build, delivery and transition to operational support, resolving design risks and challenges.
  • Present architectural plans and decisions to technical, non-technical and executive stakeholders, and contribute to architecture review boards, design authorities and project steering committees.
  • Promote approved Icon technology standards, platforms and tooling to reduce duplication, unmanaged solutions and shadow IT.
  • Contribute to technology roadmaps, architecture governance, audit and compliance activities, and mentor delivery and engineering teams.

    What you will bring
    Mandatory skills and experience
  • A tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline.
  • At least five years’ experience as a Solution Architect across a range of technology implementations and major vendors.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering cloud-based solutions.
  • Experience architecting standalone and heavily integrated solutions, and defining and implementing architectural patterns.
  • Experience across application, integration and data architecture in complex enterprise environments.
  • Experience designing API-based integrations and event-driven architectures.
  • Understanding of data governance, information lifecycle management, cybersecurity, privacy and compliance requirements.
  • Experience designing across on-premises and cloud environments, including IaaS, PaaS, SaaS and cloud-native software.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 as solution building blocks.
  • Ability to produce clear solution design documents, specifications and decision records for varied audiences.

    Highly desirable
  • Experience designing AI-enabled, automation or digital workplace solutions.
  • Experience in healthcare, critical infrastructure or another highly regulated industry.
  • Experience with AWS or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Exposure to Agile or another established delivery methodology, including change programs.
  • Experience managing and negotiating with third-party vendors, supported by sound financial literacy.
  • TOGAF, ITIL 4 Foundation, Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305), AWS Solutions Architect Associate or Professional, or equivalent certification.
