Day Hospital Patient Admissions / Reception - Icon Cancer Centre Southport

About the role:
We have an opportunity for a Patient Admissions/Reception Officer to join our Southport centre. This position is to manage the collection and verification of patient information effectively and efficiently for timely referral to Medical Specialist and admission to the centre. Working in a part-time capacity 45hours/fortnight, Monday to Friday within the operating hours.  This role will report to the Administration Manager.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Creating new treatment plans and hard charts for clinics
  • Greeting patients and visitors at reception ensuring they are received in a professional, efficient and friendly manner
  • Facilitate the Patient Admission and Discharge procedures/paperwork
  • Performing health fund checks upon patient arrival, discussing any costs / gap payments / co-payments
  • Ensuring patients details are checked and updated on a regular basis
  • Ensuring that patients arrivals are marked and manage wait room functions for both medical practice and day hospital as needed
  • Schedule further appointments
  • Ensure accurate collection of new patient information
  • Confirm financial responsibility for all admissions
  • Liaise with health insurance fund customer service personnel to verify health insurance status
  • Communicate clearly with patients and their families to ensure all patients are well informed of financial costs related to admissions 
Skills & Experience:
  • Administration or Medical Receptionist Qualification
  • 12 months relevant professional medical / hospital reception experience requiring current knowledge and understanding of health insurance funds
  • Exceptional communication and customer service skills
  • Professional, efficient and friendly manner both over-the-phone and face-to-face
  • Outstanding team member qualities including willing to support your colleagues and positive attitude
  • Experience with Medicare DVA and Private Health.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment
  • Flexibility and adaptability to complete various administration tasks across Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology units
  • Ability to work efficiently with attention to detail
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Outlook
