Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse – Icon Cancer Centres Richmond & Freemasons
- Part-time contracted role (45.6 hours per fortnight), running until 30th June 2027

Icon Cancer Centre & The Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia have an exciting opportunity for a Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse to join our Richmond and Freemasons teams in a part-time capacity. Reporting to the Site Manager and Nurse Unit Manager, this role will focus on the delivery of exceptional personalised cancer care to both public and private prostate cancer patients in East Melbourne catchment area.
The role of the Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse is to work in partnership across all health areas and sectors including non-government agencies, to contribute to the continuity and quality of care for patients diagnosed with prostate cancer. The level and types of interventions delivered by the Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse will vary according to the complexity of care required and the individual need of the patients in their care.
Workload will be mainly self-generated, and this will be achieved through extensive interdisciplinary collaboration across primary, secondary and tertiary health. The incumbent is required to develop and implement a coordinated, evidenced based, seamless and patient focused approach to providing nursing care. The role may require some travel and attendance at meetings and forums both within the state and interstate.
Key Responsibilities
- Provision of advanced patient centred comprehensive cancer care and support for patients with prostate cancer (initial assessment, needs triage, coordinate care services, regular check-ins, identify opportunities for clinical trial participation).
- Provide high level of clinical care, act as a clinical resource, advisor, mentor, role model, and technical expert, in relation to prostate cancer, including on-site education programmes.
- Participate in innovation and change to develop responses to address emerging service needs in relation to prostate cancer, across cancer care, surgery, and perioperative services.
- Participation in clinical research studies and data collection relevant to the prostate cancer role.
Essential Criteria:
- Current AHPRA registration
- Demonstrated relevant advanced level of skill in cancer or urological nursing
- Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills in a multidisciplinary context
- Ability to work effectively as a team member
- Proven leadership qualities
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
- Evidence of participation in and commitment to quality improvement processes and best practice principles
- Possess or be working towards a relevant post graduate qualification
- Minimum 5 years post registration experience
- Significant experience in prostate cancer, urology or oncology nursing
- Patient teaching experience
- Competence in the use of relevant information technology
