About the Role
We’re seeking a passionate and patient-focused Clinical Pharmacist (Grade 1 or 2) to join our team at Slade Pharmacy Richmond, located within Epworth Hospital. This casual role offers the opportunity and flexibility to work closely with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care across a range of clinical specialties.
In this role, you’ll be an integral part of the patient care journey, conducting clinical reviews, providing medication counselling, and supporting therapeutic decision-making. You’ll gain hands-on experience in specialised areas such as general medicine, cardiology, oncology, emergency medicine, intensive care, and surgical specialties. Whether you’re looking to build on your hospital experience or transition from community pharmacy, you’ll be supported with structured learning pathways, and ongoing professional development.
Key Responsibilities
As a Clinical Pharmacist, you will:
- Deliver comprehensive clinical pharmacy services to allocated wards, including medication chart reviews, reconciliation, and documentation of allergies and adverse drug reactions.
- Provide timely, evidence-based advice to medical, nursing, and allied health staff on the safe and effective use of medicines.
- Counsel patients and carers to ensure understanding of prescribed therapies and promote medication adherence.
- Participate in clinical rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings to support optimal patient outcomes.
- Support the safe and ethical use of medicines, including investigational and compassionate supply medications.
- Identify and resolve medication-related problems in collaboration with prescribers.
- Contribute to medication safety initiatives, quality improvement projects, and audits.
- Assist with the training and supervision of pharmacy interns, students, and technicians.
- Maintain clinical knowledge through ongoing education, training, and participation in professional development activities.
The clinical pharmacy service at Richmond operates Monday to Friday between 7.30am and 5.00pm.
About You
You’re a motivated and collaborative pharmacist who is passionate about delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. Whether you’re an experienced hospital pharmacist or transitioning from community pharmacy, you’re eager to grow your clinical skills in a supportive and fast-paced environment.
Essential Requirements:
- General registration as a Pharmacist with AHPRA
- Bachelor of Pharmacy or equivalent tertiary qualification
- Previous experience dispensing medication in an Australian or New Zealand based community or hospital pharmacy
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to prioritise workload, manage time effectively and work independently
- Commitment to the quality use of medicines and evidence-based practice
- A proactive approach to learning and professional development
Desirable:
- Previous experience in a hospital or clinical pharmacy setting
- Familiarity with PBS, SAS, MAP, DVA or other funding schemes
- Experience mentoring or supervising pharmacy interns or students
- Involvement in quality improvement initiatives, audits or clinical trials
- Membership with professional bodies such as AdPha, COSA, or ISOPP
