Legal Counsel


We are seeking a skilled and motivated 4-5 year PAE lawyer to join our legal team and support our global healthcare organisation. This is a busy and varied role that will see you providing high-quality legal services to leaders across our global business.

This role is full-time and located at our global head office in the South Brisbane business precinct, offering a hybrid working model, with one day per week working from home.

About the role:
The Icon internal Legal team is led by the General Counsel and Company Secretary.

Reporting to our Head of Legal for Australia and New Zealand, our new Legal Counsel will generally manage their own matters with support from the other members of the Legal Team where appropriate, act as a trusted point of contact for stakeholders, and provide practical legal guidance across a dynamic healthcare environment.  You will join an established, well-regarded and tight-knit team who work closely together to service business needs.

From our Brisbane office, the team works broadly across the business and regions and supports various ongoing and upcoming projects, both large and small. There is usually something new happening and a variety of legal and commercial opportunities to be involved in.

The role will see you:
  • Advise on property law matters, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and legal requirements.
  • Support a range of projects and commercial matters across all business units, including in cancer care, pharmacy services, compounding, research and core. Support will involve commercial discussions, advice preparation and delivery, contract drafting, negotiation, and review.
  • Provide legal support on other corporate transactions including development, M&A, intellectual property, employment, and other commercial law areas as needed.
  • Assist with board support and corporate governance.
  • Ensure legal compliance and advise on implications.
  • Provide lease management supervision (and support where required), including through contract management system.
About you:
  • 4-5 years’ experience as a Property and/or Commercial Lawyer
  • Significant contract drafting experience required
  • Strong negotiation, communication and teamwork skills
  • Excellent initiative to ask questions, seek to understand and deliver what’s needed
  • Able to grasp new legal concepts quickly and support new opportunities as they arise
  • High-level ability to clearly draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements with a focus on alignment with business goals and strategy, eg, leases, NDAs, construction contracts
  • Excellent research and analytical abilities
  • Experience from a top tier private practice firm or in-house (desirable)
