The Opportunity
This is a permanent full-time opportunity to join our dedicated and skilful Port Augusta Hospital pharmacy team. This role has a primary focus on delivering exceptional clinical pharmacy services as part of a multidisciplinary team serving remote areas of Australia. Responsibilities include providing education and seamless medication supply to both the Port Augusta hospital and all the associated outreach sites. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to travel to remote healthcare facilities (via RFDS aeroplane and/or car depending on the distance), working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, and patients to ensure the highest standards of clinical pharmacy services are upheld. The successful candidate will ideally have a keen interest in quality use of medicines and understand that clinical care to remote patients presents unique challenges. A desire to travel to remote areas to deliver clinical pharmacy services and working alongside a team of dedicated individuals to deliver remote supply chain management, remote monitoring of health metrics, integrated and holistic models of care in partnership with other members of the health care team to enhance service delivery and capacity building in remote areas will be an advantage.

Situated approximately three hours drive from Adelaide, the hospital is used as a teaching base for paediatric medicine by the University of Adelaide as well as for providing pharmacy students with experience in hospital pharmacy practice in a key regional setting. Extensive recreational opportunities exist around Port Augusta including water sports and fishing, as well as bush walking and camping in the beautiful and unspoiled Flinders Ranges.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with key stakeholders to ensure excellent customer service to clients and patients
- Provide comprehensive clinical pharmacy support to patients, carers, hospital staff and associated employees
- Educate and advise staff and customers on health promotion, disease prevention, drug selection and the proper use of medicines
- Perform as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Prepare Best Possible Medication History lists for hospital inpatients.
- Contribute to medication safety and quality improvement initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with medical and nursing staff
- Dispense and supply medication and pharmacy products.
- Coordinate patient medication requirements
We are seeking a highly motivated and team-oriented pharmacist who can deliver an exceptional standard of patient service with sensitivity, compassion, and professionalism. You will have high attention to detail and strong time management and prioritisation skills.
To be considered for the role, we will require the following
- A current AHPRA registered pharmacist.
- Previous dispensing/clinical experience in an Australian based hospital or community pharmacy
- Have time management, communication, and teamwork skills
- Be flexible and adaptable working with a diverse team
- Embrace change and commit to learning
- Value attention to detail and able to work both autonomously and as part of a team
