About the Role
As a Clinical Governance & Quality Specialist, you will provide expert guidance on patient safety and clinical governance, including risk management, clinical incidents, licensing and accreditation, infection prevention and control, consumer engagement (including feedback), clinical auditing and document management. You will also play a broader role in supporting quality initiatives within the Clinical Governance & Quality Unit.
This position involves strengthening clinical governance frameworks, enhancing quality systems, fostering positive workplace culture, and building workforce capability to ensure safe, person-centred care across our national and international services. Regular responsibilities include evaluating organisational policies, procedures, and outcomes to drive continuous quality improvement.
Collaboration with national and international teams, quality specialists, operational leaders, and managers is central to fostering best practices, improving patient safety, and achieving optimal clinical outcomes.
This position is ideally based in our South Brisbane Icon head office, however remote workers will also be considered. We offer flexible work arrangements alongside a competitive remuneration package for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Clinical Governance Initiatives - Actively contribute to the clinical governance of Icon’s national and international operations by integrating specialist technical expertise into system design, strategic planning, documentation, quality committees, meetings, communications, and workforce engagement initiatives.
- Ensure System Integrity and Performance - Provide expert technical guidance to maintain optimal system functionality, swiftly identifying and resolving issues to ensure seamless operations.
- Manage Adverse Event Response - Lead structured investigations and technical analyses of adverse events, applying continuous quality improvement (CQI) methodologies to prevent recurrence and enhance patient safety.
- Compliance and Accreditation Oversight - Offer specialised guidance on interpreting, implementing, and sustaining compliance with all accreditations, national quality assurance frameworks, and regulatory standards, ensuring alignment with external requirements.
- Risk Mitigation and Emergency Preparedness - Deliver expert risk management advice to safeguard patients, visitors, and staff, particularly during emergencies, by developing and supporting effective response strategies.
- Specialist Support in Key Quality Domains - Provide in-depth expertise and support in critical areas such as infection prevention and control, clinical document management, and consumer engagement, fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
About You
Essential skills and qualifications
- Relevant qualifications in a healthcare specialty or clinical discipline, with extensive experience in healthcare quality improvement.
- Practical experience in clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives.
- Expertise in accreditation frameworks such as NSQHSS or EQuIP7.
- Strong skills in data management and analysis to support quality improvement.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable skills
- Extensive practical experience in oncology, in particular radiation therapy.
- Experience working within the cancer care healthcare sector.
- Registration with AHPRA or similar authority.
- Mentoring, coaching, and training skills.
