In this episode of Icon Elevate, Group CEO Mark Middleton OAM sits down with Nigel Middlebrook, Regional Medical Physics Manager for Victoria and Tasmania.
Nigel manages a team of 11 physicists and brings a wealth of experience to his role, having now worked in increasingly more senior positions across almost every Australian state.
Nigel finished his Master in Medical Physics in 2006 and held various roles in both public and private hospitals before joining Icon in 2017.
Nigel’s first role with Icon was at Icon Cancer Centre Midland, where he was instrumental in expanding Icon’s cancer treatment services into Western Australia.
Initially, Nigel was still based out of the Gold Coast where he was commissioning the linac at Gold Coast Private Hospital before officially moving across to Perth.
Icon’s accelerated growth over the last five years has seen Nigel travel from coast to coast supporting teams as new cancer centres have opened.
In 2020, he moved back to East Melbourne, where he assumed his current role.
The scope of Nigel’s work is incredibly complex and wide-ranging. In addition to working on-site as a team leader, he supports the broader international Icon Medical Physicists network, collaborating with team members globally on projects and technical development work.
Unfortunately, Nigel’s move back to Melbourne in 2020 coincided with the extended Victorian lockdown, which meant that he could not fully enjoy the Melbourne lifestyle until this year.
Having just completed a Master in Business Administration, Nigel is looking forward to some free time to fully enjoy all that the city has to offer.
