Our Icon Cancer Centre sites in New South Wales (NSW) and Australian Capital Territory (ACT) recently underwent the assessments where centres are only provided with 24-48 hours’ notice.
Icon’s Australian cancer centres receive Quality results
In a truly iconic performance, Icon’s Australian cancer centres have performed well above national standards in our first SNAP (Short Notice Assessment Pathway) accreditation audit assessments.
Rigorous assessment
Over two days, assessors from the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) visited seven Icon Cancer Centre sites under the new SNAP accreditation with each centre receiving outstanding results.
Mandated by the Australian Commission Safety and Quality in Health Care, SNAP is a new approach designed to provide a more accurate reflection of a centre’s daily practice, identify gaps and support to improve safety and quality systems and processes.
Top marks
The results saw all centres were compliant against the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards. The team received no ‘not met’ actions or ‘met with recommendation’ – above the national average.
Data collected from the pilot SNAP accreditations conducted by ACHS revealed other organisations had increased their ‘met with recommendation’ actions – but this was not the case for Icon.
Team effort
CEO Icon Cancer Centre Australia and New Zealand, Paul Fenton said the results reflect the Icon team’s commitment to quality and safety for our patients.
“Our centres adapted well to the new mandatory changes and the outstanding results speak volumes,” said Paul.
“We performed above the national standard with assessors providing positive feedback particularly praising our team’s engagement and high standard of care.
“The results show a deep dedication to delivering quality care and ensuring our patients and their loved ones are safe and supported at our centres.”
Excellence in care
Icon consistently exceeds industry quality benchmarking and utilises a national network of cancer centres to deliver robust governance structures and stringent policies and procedures for the safety and benefit of the people in our care.
In 2020, Icon Group was also the first oncology centre in Asia to achieve the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards International (ACHSI) EQuiP Accreditation Certification. Learn more here.
About the SNAP Accreditation:
Mandatory short notice assessment to the NSQHS Standards commenced from July 2023, with centres given 24 to 48 hours before assessors arrive on-site. This change allows assessments to reflect day to day practice, continuous compliance and allows assessors to identify gaps and support health service organisations to improve safety and quality systems and processes.
Accreditation occurs at least once in a three- year accreditation cycle. Learn more about SNAP here.
