Creating a sustainable future – Slade Health’s environmental responsibility initiatives
As National Recycling Week (11-17 November 2024) shines a spotlight on environmental awareness, our compounding division, Slade Health is proud to share their efforts in reducing waste and promoting a sustainable future.
Key sustainability initiatives at Slade Health
Recycling and reuse programs
- We prevent over 80,000 pieces of polystyrene from reaching landfills annually by reusing delivery materials
- Approximately 60,000 cartons per year are recycled, with excess packaging processed for further recycling
- Each week, we recycle 5,500 litres of paper and 1,100 litres of plastic, while 84% of large shippers, 70% of small shippers, and 76% of ice bricks are reused or recycled
Paperless compounding
As Australia’s first licensed paperless compounder, Slade Health have eliminated the need for paper documentation in the compounding process, saving over five tonnes of paper every year. Our fully digital compounding process ensures heightened safety and efficiency while significantly reducing our environmental footprint. Learn more.
Carbon emission reduction
Partnering with Greenfleet, we contribute to tree planting and reforestation efforts. During the Advanced Pharmacy Australia MM2023 Conference, our initiative led to 150 native trees being planted, which will offset 94 tonnes of carbon emissions over their lifetimes.
Electric vehicles
Our fleet includes three fully electric vehicles that have collectively travelled over 80,000 kilometres to deliver our compounded products to patients across Australia and New Zealand.
