Construction is now officially underway for the first 5D Clinics CyberKnife centre in Melbourne, marking a pivotal step towards enhancing cancer care accessibility and innovation in the region.

It’s the first significant milestone in the joint venture between Icon Group and 5D Clinics, announced earlier this year.

The new centre located in Cremorne, south of Richmond, Victoria is the first of several centres planned across Australia’s east coast through the partnership.

The Melbourne centre will be home to the State’s first CyberKnife.

CyberKnife is a cutting-edge robotic radiosurgery machine that utilises real-time x-ray guided motion synchronisation technology to precisely target and track tumour motion, adjusting the position of treatment in real-time, reducing the amount of radiation delivered to healthy tissue, without compromising the dose delivered.

It is particularly beneficial for cancer located in the chest and abdomen including lung, liver and pancreas. Other treatment sites such as the prostate, which moves during treatment in response to biological functions, also benefit from CyberKnife technology.

The collaboration between Icon Group and 5D Clinics demonstrates a shared commitment to addressing the growing demand for comprehensive cancer care solutions, and to increasing access to world-class treatments for more communities across Australia.

Once operational, the centre will provide a range of advanced radiation therapy treatments led by a highly specialised and experienced team of oncologists internationally recognised in the delivery of CyberKnife technology and techniques.

Construction is expected to be completed by March of next year with treatment to commence May 2025.
