Icon’s proposal to develop a new Icon Cancer Centre at AMT Headingley Stadium in Leeds represents more than an expansion of cancer care in the UK, it reflects a shared commitment to community, partnership and long‑term impact.

Home to the Leeds Rhinos rugby team, Headingley Stadium has long been an iconic sporting complex as well as home to health and wellbeing initiatives. The proposed cancer centre builds on this legacy, integrating advanced healthcare into an environment already deeply connected to the local community.

Icon Group CEO, Mark Middleton OAM, emphasised the significance of this new proposal, and how it will help to improve health outcomes for all patients.

“We will provide access for everyone and we fully expect that we will be treating private patients here, and we want to work very closely with the local trust on also providing access for public patients,” Mark said.

“We’re here to help patient by patient, family by family, community by community.”

Chairman of Caddick Group, and owner of Leeds Rhinos and AMT Headingley Stadium, Paul Caddick MBE highlighted how the stadium is embedded within the city’s culture and its people.

“The AMT Headingley Stadium is now at the heart of the community in Leeds and so it has been a natural progression to try and add a healthcare facility onto the site,” Paul said.

Newly appointed Strategic Advisor to Icon and former Chair of Leeds Hospitals NHS Trust, Dame Linda Pollard outlined the critical nature of bringing this level of healthcare to Leeds.

“What you’ve got here at Headingley that doesn’t just have matches, whether it’s rugby or cricket, they’ve got a whole community input, and that is exactly the values that Icon bring,” Dame Linda said.
