Icon Group has appointed Shuling Sum as Chief Operating Officer for Icon ASEAN, supporting ongoing operational excellence and leadership capability across the region.

The Chief Operating Officer, ASEAN is a senior leadership role responsible for the safe, effective and efficient operation of all Icon sites across Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.

The establishment of an ASEAN COO will strengthen operational excellence and collaboration with clinical leaders to ensure Icon’s continued leadership in the delivery of holistic cancer care.

Beyond this, Shuling will be pivotal in leveraging Icon Group’s global network of services and innovative models of care to enhance the patient experience across our ASEAN portfolio of centres.

Working closely with clinicians and operational leaders, the COO role will drive consistent operating frameworks, governance and standard operating procedures, performance and quality, and workforce capability, helping ensure operational models support exceptional patient care.

The COO role will also focus on digital health initiatives and technology adoption that enhance the patient experience and operational performance, alongside disciplined KPI management across safety, quality, efficiency and patient satisfaction that meets Icon Group’s global operations and commitment to delivering the best care possible.

Shuling joins Icon with significant healthcare leadership experience spanning operations, transformation and strategy.

Her background includes senior roles within IHH Healthcare, including Head of Laboratory Services at Parkway Laboratories and Assistant Vice President, Group Strategy and Business Development, supporting regional operating models and multi-market growth initiatives.

She has also contributed to greenfield hospital operations and led teams responsible for hospital revenue operations.

Shuling holds an MBA from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and a Bachelor of Science from The University of British Columbia.

“Icon’s commitment to delivering highquality, patientcentred cancer care across the region is something I deeply admire. I’m excited to be joining the team at this stage of ASEAN’s growth to strengthen operational consistency and work closely with our clinicians and teams to deliver exceptional care for every patient,” Shuling said.

Icon Group CEO, Mark Middleton OAM said Shuling’s appointment further strengthens Icon’s investment in the region.

“This marks a positive step in the evolution of our ASEAN services, an increasingly important part of Icon’s global network, with operational excellence fundamental to continuing to deliver safe, high-quality care,” said Mark.

“Shuling brings strong and proven capability in healthcare operations and transformation, and we’re pleased to welcome her to Icon as we continue strengthening how we support patients and teams across the region to deliver the best possible care.”
