As we continue to set new standards of excellence across Icon Group’s pharmacy division, we’re pleased to showcase our newly renamed Pharmacy Practice Unit (PPU) now referred to as Quality and Medication Safety Unit (QMSU), reflecting our next evolution and commitment to medication safety.
Benchmarking excellence in pharmacy management
Introducing a national Quality and Medication Safety Unit.
The QMSU is responsible for leading the clinical governance, quality, and safety of Icon Group pharmacy services including the Epic Pharmacy, Slade Pharmacy, and Icon Cancer Centre pharmacies.
This transformation in structure and name better aligns with our hospital partners’ expectations and more accurately describes the unit’s broad focus, extending beyond pharmacy practice to include quality medication use, clinical service delivery, learning and development, accreditation, audits and compliance, publications, clinical trials, and National Accreditation and Clinical care standards (including Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) and Opioid stewardship).
The restructure improves agility and workflow with four defined key pillars – Medication Safety/Learning and Development, Clinical Trials, Cancer Services, and Audits and Compliance.
Head of Quality and Medication Safety, Claire Fitzgerald leads the team and says this new structure allows Icon to deliver the best possible care to more partners and patients.
“These changes mark a significant step in Icon’s commitment to best-in-class pharmacy services,” said Claire.
“We have a strong track record in the delivery of innovative pharmacy management and the QMSU will allow us to maintain leading pharmacy services that place patients at the centre and ensure quality and safety at every step.”
The unit is made up of experienced team who work across the four pillars and connect in with Icon Group’s comprehensive care model.
