The Penang centre, located in Island Hospital is part of Icon Group’s joint venture with Sunsuria Healthcare. The collaboration brings together Icon’s deep oncology expertise with Sunsuria’s strength and knowledge of the region’s healthcare landscape.
Since opening, the centre has ensured more patients, both local and regional, gain greater access to comprehensive cancer care.
In its first year, the centre welcomed a new doctor, Dr. Ooi Kai Yun and launched Icon’s Women’s Cancer Program.
This program supports women through their cancer diagnoses and beyond, recognising their unique concerns and providing personalised care and access to the support and treatment they need.
Providing a more seamless approach to care, this service has been well received by patients and helped close the care gap between allied health and multidisciplinary specialists.
The centre’s Medical Director, Dato’ Dr. M Amir Shah has been a significant contributor to the centre’s success, building strong relationships with healthcare professionals, partners and patients.
“It’s been a real privilege being part of a dedicated team all working together to providing advanced, comprehensive cancer care to our community,” said Dato’ Dr. Shah.

In the first half of the year, the team will host an official launch of the centre’s extension and refurbishments which will continue to improve the patient experience.
