Episode 7: Erin McLennan

Elevate episode with Erin McLennan

In the latest episode of Icon Elevate, Mark Middleton OAM sits down with the incredible Erin McLennan, current Middleton Scholar and Cancer Care Coordinator at Icon Cancer Centre South Brisbane.

Erin developed a passion for nursing after being inspired by an early work placement. She has since achieved a Bachelor of Nursing, a Graduate Certificate in Cancer Nursing and a Masters in Healthcare Leadership.

Erin works in a co-funded position between Icon and the Mater Private Hospital as a Clinical Nurse, prioritising streamlining patient flow between the two entities and decreasing inpatient length of stay.

She attributes her enormous success in this role to being acutely aware of the challenges patients face during their treatment journey beyond disease and treatment side effects. Erin takes a holistic patient-centred approach — supporting her patients across the scope of psychological and financial struggles to allied health needs and preparing for end-of-life care.

As a testament to her hard work and talent, Erin was appointed as one of the inaugural Cancer Care Coordinators (CCC) at Icon’s South Brisbane Centre.

She has played an integral role in developing the CCC service and its continued evolution, ensuring Icon can consistently meet the needs of our patients.

Erin is especially passionate about caring for our older patient cohort and is a member of the Cancer Nurses Society of Australia’s (CNSA) Older Persons with Cancer Specialist Network Committee.

In this episode of Icon ElevateErin talks about her experience attending the 2022 World Cancer Congress in Geneva as the first nurse Middleton Scholar and her career journey to date.
