Margie has more than 25 years’ experience in oncology nursing. As Group Director of Nursing she leads Icon’s global nursing network, designing and developing the strategic direction of Icon’s nursing cohort. Margie is also subject coordinator at University of Melbourne where she developed and delivers the post graduate radiation oncology nursing course as she continues to provide advice and strategic direction to the education of future nurses. These two roles align with her passion for strategic workforce planning and care delivery, professional development for all cancer nurses and her commitment to advancing nursing practice in cancer care
In 2024 Margie joined the Board of Directors of the Cancer Nurses Society of Australia (CNSA), Australia’s peak professional nursing body, holding the portfolio of Director of Education. Margie is a long-standing member of CNSA and has held past chair and current member positions on several committees. Her role with CNSA is instrumental to ensuring high standards of care and advocating for ongoing resources, training and education to advance cancer nursing practice ultimately leading to better patient outcomes
Margie has also authored practice principles for caring for patients undergoing radiation therapy with the aim of standardising care for all patients. These practice principles, now form part of Australia’s national standards in radiation oncology. Margie and her education team have worked alongside Icon’s partners, City Cancer Challenge to deliver a virtual patient navigation program in Kigali, Rwanda with aim to improve cancer care in lower to middle income countries (LMICs). This program has been a huge success in upskilling nurses and improving patient outcomes and is now being rolled out as a virtual series to more LMICs.
Margie holds a Master of Nursing, Nursing Practice from Deakin University and Diploma of Healthcare Management from Swinbourne University.
