Matthew Rundle

Icon Group’s 2023 Middleton Scholar

Driven and compassionate – a diverse and rewarding healthcare career

Having honed his skills at the University of Tasmania, Matt embarked on his career in 2009, diving headfirst into his work as a pharmacist.

Matt joined the Capital Chemist Group, where he discovered a passion for oncology pharmacy and cancer care.

In 2016, he became Director and Managing Partner at New Town Capital Chemist in Tasmania, leaving a trail of impressive accomplishments in his wake. However, the winds of change blew in 2017 when Icon Group acquired New Town Capital Chemist. Matt effortlessly transitioned into his role as Pharmacy Manager, making an indelible mark on the Hobart community and the newly opened Icon Cancer Centre.

Fast forward to 2019, Matt’s relentless dedication to cancer care culminated in his appointment as Site Manager at Icon Cancer Centre Hobart. With his collaborative and calm leadership style, he’s built robust relationships and expanded cancer care services across Tasmania, making exceptional patient care his mission.

Forever the ambitious learner, Matt is presently pursuing an MBA at Griffith University and has his sights set on completing the Australian Institute of Company Directors Course, both in 2023. Notably, his commitment to growth and professional excellence led him to be selected in Icon’s prestigious Future Leaders Forum in 2022, a highlight that sparked his interest in applying for the coveted Middleton Scholarship.

Beyond the professional realm, Matt is a devoted family man, savouring his roles as husband and father. His athletic prowess shines as a triathlete and runner, boasting qualifications for world-class Ironman championships. Not only that, but he’s a passionate supporter of Cancer Council Tasmania, fuelling his drive to make a difference.

Matt’s crowning achievements with Icon Cancer Centre Hobart include aiding in the establishment of a critical genetic counselling service and developing and growing the Hobart team’s clinical trials and research portfolio. Not one to rest on his laurels, he is also proud to have initiated Tasmania’s first private cancer multidisciplinary meetings.

Our 2023 Scholar reflects on his achievement, “Being awarded the Middleton Scholarship is testament to hard work and dedication, and I hope it will inspire my children and others to strive for excellence and make a difference in the world. I know this will have a transformative impact on me personally and professionally, providing me with invaluable experiences, opportunities, and resources to contribute to the development of cancer care services in Tasmania and to grow as a healthcare leader.”
