Mark Middleton – Icon Group CEO
Mark is a highly regarded radiation therapist and healthcare executive who brings essential clinical expertise and astute strategic vision to his role as CEO of Icon Group. He worked in cancer care in North America and the UK before co-founding Radiation Oncology Queensland (ROQ), now known as Icon Cancer Centre and part of Icon Group. He has published 25 peer reviewed scientific papers and is a frequent keynote speaker nationally and internationally. In 2018, Mark was announced as a Director of the inaugural City Cancer Challenge Board.
In 2022, Mark was awarded The Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) (General Division) in recognition of his significant contribution to Australian cancer care.

Marlene Mumukunde – City Cancer Challenge Kigali
As Kigali Project Coordinator at City Cancer Challenge Marlene supports the city of Kigali to improve access to quality and equitable cancer care. She has over nine years of experience in community health, digital health and health system strengthening. Prior to this, she was a Project Manager at TIP Global Health for the E-Heza Digital Data Solution Initiative where she coordinated all activities related to the digitalisation of health record systems to improve maternal and child health outcomes.
Marlene holds a Masters in Global Health Delivery from the University of Global Health Equity.

Michael Oberrieter – Head of Global Access, Roche
Michael is an economist by training and completed a post-graduate diploma and master studies in International Politics and Communications. He has over 25 years’ experience in the field of health policy, patient access, capacity building and health economics, spanning across different therapeutic areas and countries – including Austria, Germany, Hungary, and Asia Pacific (APAC).
Michael is also a member of the board of All.Can International, an international multi-stakeholder not-for-profit organisation working to improve the efficiency of cancer care by focusing on what matters to patients.

Margie Hjorth – Icon Group Director of Nursing
Margie is a highly experienced oncology nurse who currently leads Icon’s global nursing network with a dedication to professional development and exceptional patient experience. She has held the position of Chair of the Cancer Nurses Society of Australia (CNSA) Radiation Oncology Nurses Specialty Practice Network (RONSPN) and advocates for greater resources and advancements in nursing practice.
Margie has developed practice principles for caring for patients undergoing radiation therapy with the aim to standardise patient care which now form part of Australia’s national standards in radiation oncology.

A/Prof Matthew Foote – Deputy Director Radiation Oncology
A/Prof Foote is a highly experienced Radiation Oncologist and an internationally recognised specialist in the management of brain tumours, head and neck cancer and skin cancer. He established and is Co-Director of the Gamma Knife Centre of Queensland and is a Founding Member and previous Chair of the Stereotactic Interest Group of Australasia (SIGA). He has served as Chair of the International Clinical Research Subcommittee (ICRS) and on the Management Committee for the Cooperative Trials Group for Neuro-Oncology (COGNO).
A/Prof Foote is an ex-officio Board Member of the International Stereotactic Radiosurgery Society (ISRS) and is part of the ISRS Certification Committee which improves quality of stereotactic services world-wide.

Trent Aland – Executive Manager – Clinical Care
Trent is an internationally recognised medical physicist with over 20 years’ experience and a strong focus on technology innovation, clinical training, strategic partnerships, and oncology management. Trent has held numerous senior positions and in his current role oversees clinical governance and provides leadership support across Icon’s broader cancer services clinical care teams including medical physics, radiation therapy, nursing, molecular oncology, and quality and risk management.
He is also an Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Science at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and a board member of the Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM).

Claire Smith – Icon Group Director of Radiation Therapy
Claire is an experienced radiation therapist with 20 years’ experience spanning clinical and management skills across the development, planning and operational implementation of both public and private radiation oncology departments in Australia, the UK and China.
In her current role, Claire leads Icon’s global radiation therapy division to deliver the highest quality treatments and elevate the standard of radiation therapy through innovative training and education.
