A ground-breaking milestone for new cancer centre in Noosa

The recently announced state-of-the-art Icon Cancer Centre in Noosa, Queensland took a significant step forward today as the team gathered to turn the soil on our latest development helping to bring care to more people.

Set to open in 2024, the centre is Icon’s second radiation oncology facility on the Sunshine Coast and 18th centre in Queensland. This follows the recently opened centre at Auchenflower, Wesley in South-East Queensland. Icon currently owns and operates 38 cancer centres across Australia. 

Icon Group CEO, Mark Middleton, Global Director – Icon Cancer Centre, Ross Koscharsky, Director Radiation Oncology, Dr Marcel Knesl, and Deputy Director Radiation Oncology, A/Prof Matthew Foote gathered onsite, on the lands of the Kabi Kabi people, to symbolically mark the start of site preparations. 

On completion, the Icon Cancer Centre Noosa will employ an experienced multidisciplinary team of cancer care specialists and collaborate with local healthcare providers and partners to offer seamless cancer care in the heart of Noosa.  

This project will be part of Stockwell’s Noosa Civic Medihub and provide cutting-edge radiation therapy technology, including an advanced Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator.

Icon Group CEO Mark Middleton said the service will treat all tumour streams with the capacity to provide more than 900 new courses of radiation therapy every year.   “Today we take another step towards a brighter future for communities. This centre is a great example of our commitment to forming local partnerships to deliver comprehensive care to more communities,” said Mark.

“We have a proud history of providing cancer care in Queensland and are dedicated to ensuring more people have access to the latest treatments and exceptional clinical teams close to their support networks.” 

The Noosa Civic Medihub is part of the Noosa Business Centre owned and managed by private Queensland property company Stockwell. It’s the first step in providing tertiary health care for the local community with no need to travel outside the local area to access services. The Noosa Civic Family practice will also be relocating to the new Medihub. Further leases being finalised with Cardiology and Pathology service providers.
