Icon Writers / 25 Jul, 2024

We’re excited to announce the 2024 Middleton Scholarship recipient, Group Manager of Clinical Governance and Quality, Catherine Di Stasi.

Founded by Group CEO, Mark Middleton OAM in 2018, the scholarship is open to all current Icon Group employees and focusses on providing a unique professional development experience to nurture talent and provide meaningful opportunities for people across Icon. Funded by Mark and his family and supported by Icon’s partners at the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), the scholarship provides an opportunity to be part of the global cancer care conversation, network with healthcare leaders and develop skills to support career progression and our mission to deliver more care to more people.

After a rigorous and competitive application process assessed by an external judging panel, Catherine’s impressive application was the successful winner.

Throughout Catherine’s 13-year tenure at Icon she has held several clinical and leadership positions starting as a Charge Radiation Therapist, through to a Site Manager, Regional Manager and now heads the group’s global clinical governance and quality team. Now as Group Manager of Clinical Governance and Quality, Catherine oversees the global direction of quality standards across Icon’s cancer care services with a focus on continuous improvement. She juggles several different regional accreditations, requirements and standards and leads a team of quality specialists and coordinators across all modalities of cancer care.

Some of her recent achievements include – leading the success of Icon Cancer Centre Australia’s first SNAP (Short Notice Assessment Pathway) accreditation audit assessments which performed well above national standards with no major recommendations, and the second round of ACHSI assessments for our six cancer centres in Singapore, achieving three years’ accreditation. This accreditation was a group-wide effort and included a five-day virtual assessment with assessors meeting with teams from Singapore and Australia.

In 2020, Catherine was selected to be part of Icon’s Future Leaders Forum, a professional development program dedicated to empowering the next generation of healthcare leaders. She has also been a mentor to Future Leaders Forum alumni and continues to focus on continued learning to develop and grow for herself, the people around her and the organisation.

Catherine says it’s an honour to be awarded the Middleton Scholarship.

“I’ve been very fortunate to have held numerous roles at Icon and gain new skills and experiences which have propelled me in my career; this is another exciting opportunity not only for my own professional development but also for my team and Icon’s ability to bring more care to more people,” said Catherine.

“I’d like to thank Mark and his family for investing in people and providing these opportunities that can only benefit our workforce and directly the patients in our care.”

Group CEO, Mark Middleton is proud of the program and is looking forward to Catherine’s continued career with Icon.

“Now in its seventh year, the scholarship program continues to mature and produce exceptional healthcare professionals,” said Mark.

“It’s been a privilege to have a front row seat of Catherine’s career and see her grow and make a significant impact to teams and patients; she is a very deserving scholar and I look forward to what this year will bring.

“I have always been a big believer in ongoing professional development and no matter how experienced you are, or how much you think you know, you should never stop learning.

“This scholarship nurtures our employees and provides them with opportunities that can propel their careers forward and create a pathway for professional growth and empower them to contribute to our mission and the global cancer care conversation.”

As part of her scholarship program Catherine will receive a tailored program suited to her focus and career goals. She will also be attending the Union for International Cancer Control’s (UICC) World Cancer Congress in Geneva, Switzerland this September which will include tours of UICC offices and meetings with City Cancer Challenge (C/Can).
