With reduced side effects and less treatment sessions, CyberKnife targets hard-to-reach tumours in the brain, spine, lung, liver and prostate.
Icon and 5D Clinics Radiation Oncologist, Dr Andrew See, praised the technology and its ability to reach complex tumours with not only pinpoint accuracy, but also in less treatment sessions.
“It’s a real game-changer for people with cancers that were previously difficult to treat using other conventional forms of radiation – it opens up the possibilities of better patient outcomes and higher quality of life,” said Dr See.
“CyberKnife offers unrivalled accuracy and new hope – and now, patients no longer need to travel interstate for this level of care.”
Bringing the best possible care closer to home
63-year-old Melbourne resident, Sue Ernsdoerfer was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2015. Following several rounds of chemotherapy and radiation, she decided to investigate other possible alternatives. After discovering CyberKnife, Sue contacted the team at 5D Clinics in Perth.
“I experienced minimal side effects, and I feel very fortunate to have been able to receive this incredible treatment and have now been in remission for just over five years,” said Sue.
“But unfortunately, many people can’t travel for their treatment or are unaware of this technology.
“People deserve more treatment options and I’m so glad that people just like me will now be able to get CyberKnife right here in Melbourne.”
Located at 6 Palmer Parade, Cremorne, south of Richmond, the centre is now open for patient consultations with treatments to start from August.
Several more CyberKnife centres are planned along Australia’s east coast as part of the joint venture, with future locations to follow in Sydney and Brisbane.
