This CyberKnife system marks the first collaboration as part of Icon and 5D Clinics joint venture and the very first of its kind on Australia’s east coast. The machine uses non-invasive robotic radiosurgery with real-time imaging feedback to provide pinpoint sub-millimetre accuracy, helping minimise the severity of side effects and enabling clinical teams to deliver very high doses of radiation in a few days versus conventional radiotherapy treatments which often require 30-40 sessions.
5D Clinics Melbourne treats first patient using CyberKnife®
Melbourne’s new 5D Clinics centre, located in Cremorne, has officially treated their first patient utilising the highly advanced CyberKnife system, marking a significant milestone for the future of radiosurgery, bringing the best possible care to more people.
Exceptional patient care
David, one of the first people to receive this treatment at 5D Clinics Melbourne, was grateful for the care he received and extended his thanks to all the team involved.
“Choosing CyberKnife gave me such relief knowing I didn’t have to face surgery or long hospital stays,” David said.
“It’s allowed me to keep working and get on with life without the downtime of traditional procedures. The results I’ve seen, and the information from my specialist, have been really reassuring and given me confidence about the future.

“What’s also made a difference is being treated here by Dr Paul Conway — he’s been fantastic. Being able to reach out to Paul directly and get the answers I needed is something you don’t often experience, and it’s made this journey so much easier.
“To anyone starting their cancer journey, I’d say get as much information as you can and connect with specialists who take the time to guide you — that support has been invaluable for me.”
Radiation Oncologist at 5D Clinics, Dr Paul Conway said this is turning the dial on cancer care.
“The introduction of CyberKnife to Melbourne means more people can access this advanced level of care without needing to travel away from their homes,” Dr Conway said.
“CyberKnife helps minimise the time patients spend in daily treatments, and the highly advanced AI technology tracks and automatically adapts to a patient’s movement during treatment, delivering extremely precise doses of radiotherapy to the tumour while minimising impact on nearby healthy tissues.
“We’re seeing really promising results with this treatment and we look forward to helping more patients here in Melbourne and across the east coast.”
