We are deeply saddened by the passing of Professor Richard Scolyer, an extraordinary clinician, researcher and leader whose contribution to cancer research has had a profound impact in Australia and around the world.
Across a life he described as “filled with happiness, optimism, opportunity and passion”, Professor Scolyer challenged what is possible in cancer care.
His work helped shape the thinking and practice of clinicians and researchers globally, and, most importantly, improved outcomes for patients and their families.
Through his life and career, he demonstrated a deep commitment to research and improving patient outcomes.
This was reflected in his final message to Australians, where he encouraged greater awareness of, and participation in, clinical trials to improve outcomes for future patients.
In reflecting on his passing, Icon Group CEO Mark Middleton, said:
