Oncology Clinical Trials Industry Roundtable

Sydney | 17 July 2026

Advancing a more collaborative, patient-centred future for oncology clinical trials

For too long, the oncology clinical trials ecosystem has operated within silos across sponsors, Clinical Research Organisations (CROs), research sites, clinicians and patient groups. While progress has been made, there remains a significant opportunity to move from parallel efforts to true partnership.

At the same time, global expectations are evolving. The updated ICH E6(R3) Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines call for a more considered and connected approach, one that prioritises:

  • quality by design
  • proactive collaboration
  • proportionate, patient-centred research
  • meaningful partnership with patients as people, not just participants

From principles to action

The Oncology Clinical Trials Industry Roundtable has been designed to help translate these principles into practical, system-wide change.

We recognise and respect the important work already led by organisations such as Rare Cancers Australia and others advocating for improved access, participation and collaboration. This initiative builds on that momentum, creating a forum where all organisations including patient advocacy, CROs, pharmaceutical companies and public and private providers can come together to focus on actionable solutions and sustained impact.

A long-term vision for change
This inaugural Roundtable is the starting point for a broader ambition: to establish a cross-sector consortium that drives ongoing collaboration and reform across Australia’s oncology clinical trials landscape.

Through this initiative, Icon Cancer Centre aims to:

  • Break down structural and operational barriers to collaboration
  • Improve and accelerate patient access to clinical trials
  • Strengthen alignment across research, clinical and industry stakeholders
  • Embed the patient voice at the centre of trial design and delivery
  • Foster a connected, national oncology clinical trials community
  • Support Australia’s position as a global leader in high-quality oncology research

Bringing the ecosystem together

The Roundtable will convene invited leaders from across the oncology clinical trials ecosystem, including:

  • pharmaceutical and biotechnology organisations
  • contract research organisations (CROs)
  • public and private clinical trial sites

This is a highly curated, invitation-only forum, designed to prioritise meaningful dialogue and collective action.

  • oncology investigators and clinicians
  • patient advocacy and consumer groups
  • government, policy and regulatory stakeholders
  • ethics and governance representatives
  • health economics and real-world evidence experts
  • research and healthcare innovation leaders
