The Opportunity
Join our Epic Pharmacy team at Northern Beaches Hospital as a Clinical Pharmacist in Emergency Medicine. This 12-month, full-time role offers the chance to deliver high-quality clinical pharmacy services in a fast-paced emergency department, supporting the safe and effective use of medicines for acutely unwell patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver timely and efficient clinical pharmacy services to emergency department patients, supporting safe and effective medication use
  • Conduct medication history interviews, reconciliation, and clinical medication reviews, prioritising high-risk patients, high-risk medicines, and complex presentations
  • Identify, prevent, and resolve medication-related problems at the point of care, including dosing, interactions, contraindications, adverse effects, and monitoring requirements
  • Provide evidence-based medication advice to medical and nursing staff to support early clinical decision-making in the emergency setting
  • Perform therapeutic drug monitoring and manage adverse drug reactions
  • Collaborate with the emergency team to support safe transitions of care, ensuring accurate medication information at admission, transfer, and discharge
  • Provide medication counselling and education to patients, particularly for high-risk medicines and new therapies initiated in the emergency department
  • Work effectively within multidisciplinary teams, offering expert medication advice to optimise patient care
  • Identify, document, and report medication incidents and near misses, contributing to medication safety and quality improvement initiatives
  • Contribute to staff education and training across pharmacy, nursing, medical, and allied health teams
  • Support quality use of medicines through audits, projects, committee participation, and contribution to emergency medicine–related guidelines, protocols, and policies
  • Contribute to weekend and on-call rosters

About the Site
Northern Beaches Hospital is a 488-bed hospital providing care to both public and private patients. The hospital has a 50 bed Emergency Department, 14 operating theatres, 2 cardiac catheter labs, 4 procedural rooms and provides a comprehensive range of surgical services, critical care and intensive care services. The hospital also has Maternity, Paediatric, Renal, Cancer Care, Mental Health and Antimicrobial Stewardship services.

The Epic team at Northern Beaches is situated in the foyer of the hospital and has 39.5 full-time-equivalent staff, including pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. Our team is split between the dispensary and the wards with pharmacists providing a full clinical service to all inpatient wards of the hospital. 

About You
Essential requirements:
  • General registration with AHPRA (no restrictions)
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical pharmacy experience in a hospital setting
  • Permanent Australian working rights
  • Strong clinical knowledge and ability to work effectively in a high-pressure environment
  • Excellent problem-solving, time management, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Flexible, adaptable, and committed to continuous learning
  • High attention to detail and ability to work autonomously

Desirable skills & experience:
  • Clinical pharmacy experience in an emergency department
