The Opportunity
Lead a growing team with expertise across datacentres, virtualisation, cloud services, disaster recovery and various hosting platform services such as database administration. This new role ensures the secure design and operation of Icon Group’s IT infrastructure, maintaining best practices for cybersecurity across all hosting and cloud platforms as we support our vast clinical, pharmaceutical, research and corporate operations.
About the Role
Reporting to the Head of IT Infrastructure, this permanent, full-time role leads a small team of cloud engineers and infrastructure specialists. You will oversee the operation and management of our Hosting & Cloud Platforms across the group. We offer a hybrid work arrangement for this position, allowing you the flexibility of both working from home and in the office.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain systems to a high standard to ensure reliability, performance and security.
- Collaborate with the team to meet incident and service request SLAs collectively.
- Respond promptly to incidents and complete service requests within agreed SLAs.
- Take charge of critical incidents as needed, ensuring swift and effective resolution.
- Implement and maintain cyber security protocols, ensuring that all systems are protected from potential threats.
- Ensure system availability, minimising downtime, and disruptions.
- Develop and maintain design and operational support documentation for systems.
- Participate in on-the-job training and development programs, assisting other team members to improve shared knowledge.
- Provide effective leadership to the team, while working autonomously and driving completion of team tasks and projects.
About You
Essential Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in a senior IT Infrastructure or cloud engineering role.
- Proven ability to lead and mentor technical teams, ideally in a distributed or multi-site environment.
- Strong understanding of cloud and hosting technologies, with a focus on reliability, performance, and security.
Technical & Leadership Competencies
- Provide technical leadership to optimise system performance, reliability, and business value.
- Supervise complex system installations, migrations, and decommissions.
- Contribute to system design, ensuring alignment with both functional and non-functional requirements.
- Initiate and oversee investigations into technical issues; identify root causes and implement effective resolutions.
- Manage incidents and problems to minimise impact and prevent recurrence.
- Document and implement changes within an established change management framework.
- Plan and manage capacity to meet current and future demands.
- Oversee hardware and software lifecycle management.
- Manage vendor relationships, including procurement and licensing.
- Develop and maintain availability strategies and disaster recovery plans.
- Define, negotiate, and maintain service level agreements (SLAs).
Desirable Technology Stack Experience
- Veeam Backup & Replication
- Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 cloud services
- Enterprise x86 server hardware (Cisco UCS experience advantageous)
- Windows Server operating systems and core Windows technologies (e.g., Group Policy, Active Directory)
- Hyperconverged platforms (Nutanix experience advantageous)
- Experience managing tenancies in co-located data centres, both domestic and international
- Relevant certifications such as ITIL, Microsoft and Nutanix are highly regarded
