Helping to deliver radiation therapy services into China

On Tuesday 11 June 2019, Icon Group (Icon) has signed a landmark agreement with United Family Healthcare Group (UFH), to deliver radiation oncology services. These services are set to open by the end of 2019 in UFH’s Qingdao hospital in Shandong province. This partnership was signed at an official Government proceeding, in front of local leaders. It will see Icon deliver world-class radiation therapy services to UFH’s well-established Qingdao hospital. Icon has in-depth experience in developing radiation therapy services in previously underutilised spaces in both hospitals and commercial buildings. This will be a brownfield development with a radiation therapy bunker currently being developed and planned inside an existing space within the hospital.

UFH is a renowned international hospital and clinic network with over two decades of proven experience within the China healthcare market. With a philosophy of providing comprehensive, personalised care, UFH and Icon share the same values of patient-centred care utilising the latest technologies and expert teams. Icon’s expertise in the Australian cancer care market, coupled with UFH’s well-established standard of care in the region is a solid foundation that will benefit patients and clinicians and see the introduction of much needed high standard radiation therapy treatments.

This announcement comes off the back of the Sanbo Hospital Group signing which will see Icon introduce and deliver radiation oncology services to Sanbo’s Chang’an Hospital in Chongqing later this year. Icon Group CEO, Mark Middleton says Icon’s growth in the region is about addressing unmet needs.

“We are proud to be working with UFH, an esteemed Group who have an extensive knowledge and experience of the China healthcare landscape,” Mr Middleton said.

“Icon has a proven track record of delivering world-class radiation therapy services across Australia. We are now exporting that talent into Asia because it’s a region of growing need. Cancer rates in China are increasing every year, and we want to help address that burden by partnering with local healthcare groups and utilising one another’s knowledge to provide the best possible care for the people of China.”
