Over the past 12 years, An’s iconic career has spanned continents and specialties, leaving a lasting impact on patients, teams, and healthcare standards across Icon and the broader industry.

On purpose – a passion for patient care

An was initially drawn to pharmacy by her passion for science and connecting with others—and pharmacy was a career that perfectly blended both.

Post study, she spent her foundational years as a pharmacist at Epic Pharmacy Greenslopes in Queensland, Australia – honing her skills and discovering passions that would shape her career.

New geographies

In late 2016, An marked a career milestone by joining Icon ASEAN in Singapore, but it didn’t come without its challenges.

“The relocation was a challenge at first—adjusting to life in a new country – but soon the opportunity to join Icon ASEAN’s pharmacy operations came along,” she shared.

“When Icon reached out with an offer, it felt like home knocking on my door.”

It was during this time that An was introduced to oncology—a moment she describes as career-defining. Immersed in cancer care, she discovered a passion for making a profound impact on patients’ lives and by 2020, expanded her work scope and transitioned into clinical operations and quality.

Shaping clinical excellence

Stepping into clinical operations and quality, An now focuses on maintaining clinical excellence. Day-to-day she oversees clinical services, ensuring quality governance, and supports best practices in pharmacy and nursing while managing compliance with local regulations.

“In my role, my goal is to enhance clinical standards, establish consistency, and manage processes that contribute to better outcomes not only for my teams but for the patients who rely on Icon’s services.” she said.

“The greatest reward of this work comes from seeing positive changes and improvements—whether in clinical standards or patient outcomes.

“Knowing my efforts contribute to better care for patients is incredibly fulfilling.”

Opportunity, at hand

Throughout her career, An has embraced opportunities that challenge and inspire her. One of her proudest, most transformative moments was leading Icon’s expansion into Malaysia.

“Icon’s entry into Malaysia was a test of my leadership skills and pushed me to grow in ways I never anticipated, expanding my knowledge and forging meaningful connections,” she reflected.

To continue shaping her leadership, An says she takes inspiration from other leaders

“My leadership journey is shaped by observing those around me and the impact of their contributions, motivating me to do the same and be a great leader too,” she said.

Creating a dynamic healthcare career

Reflecting on her journey, An is grateful for the choices that shaped her career.

“I am so grateful I chose to pursue pharmacy as now the most fulfilling aspect of my work is collaborating to improve patient outcomes and making a tangible difference in healthcare,” she said.

“This impact I get to make is something I couldn’t have done without the initial foundations of pharmacy.”
