About the role:

Due to business growth, we’re looking to increase our Data and Analytics team with the addition of a permanent, full-time Senior Data Engineer.
  
The role exists to improve upon and design fit-for-purpose solutions to ingest datasets spanning the entirety of the Icon Group business, meeting requirements from self-service BI, operational reporting, core business KPIs, and a growing Data Science capability. The Senior Data Engineer will take the lead in developing solutions using the Azure data ecosystem and share knowledge across the team. The position will interface directly with end users across the business and will be required to translate emerging business requirements into robust technical solutions.

Key responsibilities:
  • Architects and implements solutions for ingestion, creation, and preparation of data sources across on-premises and cloud platforms
  • Develops and execute jobs to import data periodically from external sources
  • Works with DevOps and Platform Engineers to build and deploy automatic resource provisioning mechanisms for the purpose of standardising, streamlining the rapid provisioning of consistent, high-quality environments, configurations and code
  • Sets up streaming services to migrate data into analytics platforms
  • Engineer’s solutions across a variety of compute and storage platforms, including cloud (virtual machines, serverless, distributed processing stacks) and on-premises environments
  • Structures and provisions data to support modelling and data discovery, including filtering, tagging, joining, parsing and normalizing data
  • Works with Integration, Data Warehouse and Analytics Engineers to build highly optimized, resilient, scalable data pipelines
  • Delivers data sourcing approach and datasets for analysis with activities including data staging, ETL, data quality and archiving
  • Research innovative data engineering techniques and contributes to the development of leading practices surrounding data
  • Works with product delivery teams to provision data to support use cases
About you:
We are seeking a self-motivated individual who is able to effectively prioritise their workload and has high level problem-solving skills. You will have the ability to build strong working relationships with various stakeholders across the business and a demonstrated willingness to share your ideas with team members.

What we hope you bring:
  • Bachelors’ degree with a focus in Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering or Mathematics
  • Experience in developing data ingestion solutions in the Azure ecosystem – Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Azure Data Lake Store, PowerBI tabular models
  • Experience in designing Data Warehouse data models
  • Experience in data profiling, source-target mappings, ETL development, SQL optimization, testing and implementation
  • Data engineering experience using Python, Java or similar languages desirable
  • Exposure to data analytics approaches for semi-structured data desirable
  • Experience of CI CD release management process and tools and sound knowledge of software engineering principles
