Radiation Oncologist - Warrnambool
About the Role:
Icon Cancer Centre is seeking to appoint a full-time Radiation Oncologist to join our Warrnambool team. The key focus of this position will be to provide exceptional Radiation Oncology services.
Located within the South West Regional Cancer Centre (SWRCC), Icon Warrnambool proudly provides the radiation oncology service on behalf of the DHHS for residents of South West Victoria and border cities in South Australia. SWRCC, which opened in 2016 after the local community raised more than $5M in under 12 months and lobbied both State and Commonwealth Government for an integrated cancer facility, is also home to a Medical Oncology and Haematology service alongside clinical trial support, breast and prostate cancer nurses, and a cancer link nurse. It is a well-integrated, dynamic service with a strong focus on high quality, patient-centric care, and ongoing support through an established survivorship program. It is highly regarded and a source of pride within the community.
Icon Warrnambool cares for a broad mix of patients and presentations and offers the latest radiotherapy techniques and equipment as standard including VMAT, DIBH, and IGRT. There are established local multidisciplinary teams for breast, lung, urological, colorectal, upper GI and haematological cancers and combined with robust, doctor-led governance structures at Icon and close links to all other Icon sites, colleagues, support, and collaboration are readily available. We are part of an extensive network of cancer centres throughout the country, and we can and do draw on the experience and knowledge of this large network of clinicians to offer quality local radiation treatment. For the right candidate, there is opportunity to transition to other Icon Sites in the future.
- Current Registered Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA)
- Sub-speciality training in Radiation Oncology holding the Fellowship of the Royal Australia and New Zealand College of Radiation Oncologists (RANZCR)
- Compliance as a healthcare provider with credentialing and compliance requirements such as immunisation, insurance etc.
About the person we're going to hire:
- Icon is committed to providing the highest level of patient care and cancer care services to the community. We are looking for a highly motivated, skilled radiation oncologist who works well in a multidisciplinary team to continue that commitment.
- The successful candidate will be someone who recognises the opportunity on offer, whether that be to set up a career in Radiation Oncology, or to make a sea-change to a relaxed coastal life. We are looking for someone who will uphold the high-performance culture that is in alignment with the vision and values of the Icon Group.
Vibrant, dynamic, and growing - Warrnambool is a great place to live and work. Located along the world-famous Great Ocean Road in South Western Victoria, Warrnambool is a true coastal delight. An enviable mix of seaside location, education, health services, tourism, cultural activities, employment opportunities and undeniable family appeal, it’s a city perfect for those wanting to get away from it all, while still having all the infrastructure and services they need at hand.
Overlooking the beautiful deep blue vista of the Southern Ocean, local beaches are annual nursery sites for Southern Right Whales, able to be seen without leaving dry land. Along with whales, this coastline is home to other wildlife including fur seals, dolphins, albatross, and a growing colony of little penguins (thanks to a world-first program using Maremma dogs to guard them as told in the movie Oddball). On dry land, Tower Hill reserve is a dormant volcano crater and haven for natural flora and fauna with kangaroos, koalas, emus, and birdlife calling this home.
With a vibrant arts and events scene, including the Port Fairy Folk Festival just down the coastline, and renowned restaurants serving delicious, fresh local produce, there is plenty of culture to immerse yourself in and enjoy. Each May, Warrnambool hosts the May Race carnival, including the popular Grand Annual Steeplechase. If you prefer to go at your own pace, Warrnambool’s art gallery houses a range of exhibits from European Salon paintings from the 1800s, through to Indigenous artefacts, and on to more contemporary works with events in and out of the gallery to enjoy.
Warrnambool truly is a gem on the Victorian coastline and a place you’d be proud to call home.
