Icon Group’s Graduate Nurse Program offers a comprehensive specialised training and development opportunity for new nurse graduates

Our program is designed to advance your clinical knowledge by offering comprehensive training and development opportunities across medical oncology, haematology and radiation oncology. Our specialist Nurse Education Team work with a network of experienced preceptors and nursing staff in our Icon cancer centres to provide training, mentorship and guidance. Our evidence-based teaching program will ensure you receive the support and development you need to truly immerse yourself in an oncology nursing career.

How long does the graduate program run for?

The Graduate Nursing Program runs for 12 months.

What is the job title?

The job title for Icon’s Graduate Nursing Program is Registered Nurse – Graduate.

What specialty streams?

The graduate program will be based in a Medical Oncology/Haematology setting, also giving you experience within Radiation Oncology.

What is the program commencement date?

The annual Graduate Nursing Program commences early February 2024.

Is ongoing employment with Icon available after the 12-month program?

You will have the opportunity to apply for all internally and externally advertised vacant positions.

Will I be working Full-Time?

The successful applicants will be initially offered a 12-Month Contract for the graduate program and will be working 0.8 FTE across Monday-Friday (roughly 30 hours per week)

Is there day-to-day support available at the site?

A local trainer/preceptor will be assigned at each site.

What will the recruitment process look like?

The recruitment process for the Graduate Nursing Program is as follows:

  • Submit your job application before the closing date. If you wish to be considering for grad roles in multiple cities, please apply for each location separately.
  • All applications will be reviewed by the Icon Group selection panel
  • You may receive a call for a brief conversation about your application
  • Short-listed candidates will be invited to a face-to-face interview
  • Reference checks will be obtained
  • Provide evidence of working rights in Australia and identification documents
  • Evidence of vaccination against COVID-19 and other vaccine preventable diseases will be obtained
  • AHPRA registration verified
  • 12 month contract positions to be offered to successful candidates
  • All applicants will be contacted to advise the outcome of their application
What should I Include in my application?

The initial application should include your Resume (Detailing education and any previous employment) and a Cover Letter (a one or two page letter introducing yourself and detailing why you wish to pursue a career in Oncology Nursing / Cancer Care).

Please attach any Clinical Placement reports (SPOT Feedback, ANSAT etc) as part of your Cover Letter (Optional)

What are the eligibility requirements?

To be eligible for the Graduate Nursing Program, you will require:

  • Bachelor of Nursing qualification
  • AHPRA nursing registration prior to commencement
I graduated last year and have been employed as a nurse since then. Am I still eligible to apply for the nurse graduate program?

Yes, we will accept applications from candidates who graduated from 2021 through to those expecting to graduate at the end of 2023.

I’m an experienced nurse but I want to move into oncology nursing. Can I apply for this program?

This program is designed to equip recent nurse graduates with the skills and confidence to translate their education into clinical practice. For current nurses wishing to transition into cancer care nursing, Icon offers a comprehensive induction program. Programs have been designed for experienced cancer nurses wanting to join Icon and for nurses with no cancer experience.

Can I commence prior to having my AHPRA registration?

You may be offered prior to having your registration by providing us with evidence of your application, however you cannot commence as a Registered Nurse until your registration is visible on the AHPRA website.
