This month, Icon Cancer Centre Mt Alvernia is marking its first anniversary with incredible achievements in patient care, cutting-edge technology, and groundbreaking research.

In its first 12 months, the team has helped many patients across radiation oncology, medical oncology, paediatric oncology, haematology and surgical oncology, and has seen a continued increase in doctors and visiting clinicians across a wide range of specialties, as well as the introduction of clinical trials.

This cutting-edge centre is the first-of-its-kind in Singapore bringing together all aspects of cancer care under one roof creating a better patient experience for people in Singapore and the ASEAN region. Working hand in hand with our long-term hospital partners at Mt Alvernia, the Icon team has enhanced standards of cancer care, bringing new technologies, treatment techniques and research to more people.

Clinical Trials and Research

The centre has become a hub for clinical trials, actively contributing to the advancement of cancer research. In 2023 the centre launched its first clinical trial and recruited five patients to a Stage 4 lung cancer study, positioning the centre as one of the top trial recruiters.

Patient, Madam Ong Guat Eng is grateful to have been able to access a clinical trial.

“I wanted to participate in this clinical trial as it would not only be beneficial for me, but also for future patients, knowing I can play a part in the development and improvement of drugs,” said Madam Ong.

“My oncologist and all the team have been so friendly, helpful, and supportive during my treatment which gave me so much confidence about the treatment and the process, I’m very grateful for their support,” said Ong Guat.

The research team is looking forward to activating more trials across more cancer types and offering the latest in treatments to more patients in 2024.

Icon Singapore recently held their first Regional Oncology Conference which brought together experienced specialists from across Icon’s global network sharing the latest in research and multidisciplinary cancer care. Learn more here.
